Security officers play a critical role in ensuring safety and property. We work in high-traffic environments, with a variety of individuals coming and going at all hours of the day and night. Therefore, the responsibilities of a security officer are diverse and require a keen attention to detail and quick decision-making. Work is available in all areas of Brisbane with flexible times. 1. Patrolling and Monitoring
- Patrolling the Premises: Security officers are responsible for regularly patrolling hotel grounds, including common areas (lobbies, hallways, dining areas), parking lots, entrances, and even back-of-house areas. This helps prevent theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities.
- Surveillance Systems: They monitor CCTV cameras and security systems to detect any suspicious activity, such as unauthorized entry or disturbances. Security officers may also monitor alarm systems for emergencies like fire or intrusion alerts.
- Ensuring Guest Safety: A primary responsibility of a security officer is to protect people from potential harm. This can include responding to disturbances, medical emergencies, or reports of suspicious behaviour.
- Providing Customer Service: They may also assist guests with information, and direct them to areas that they require. Security officers often need to balance security enforcement with hospitality and customer service.
- Monitoring Access Points: Security officers control access to premises, ensuring that only authorized individuals enter specific areas. This may involve checking identification, confirming room bookings, or using keycard access systems.
- Employee Some security officers may also monitor employee access and ensure that staff members follow protocols for entering and leaving restricted areas.
- Responding to Emergencies: In case of emergencies (e.g., medical, fire, natural disasters), security officers are often the first responders, ensuring that all are safe and helping guide them to designated evacuation routes if necessary.
- Dealing with Disturbances: Security officers are trained to handle disturbances, including noise complaints, altercations between guests, or inappropriate behavior. They may need to mediate conflicts or escort disruptive people off the property if necessary.
- Handling Criminal Activity: If a crime occurs (such as theft, assault, or vandalism), security officers must respond quickly, gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses, and contacting local law enforcement if needed.
- Monitoring for Suspicious Activity: Security officers are trained to detect signs of suspicious behavior, such as those who might be engaging in illegal activities (e.g., drug use or trafficking). They are also responsible for watching for potential threats like human trafficking or scams.
- Protecting The Vulnerable (e.g., intoxicated guests, vulnerable minors, etc.). Security officers ensure those at riskare protected from harm and assist when needed.
- Fire Drills and Evacuations: Security Officers are responsible for ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Safety Inspections: Security officers may also be involved in inspecting fire exits, checking fire extinguishers, emergency lights, and other safety equipment to ensure they are in working order.
- Handling Disputes: Security officers are often called upon to deal with conflicts. This could include disagreements over bills, customer complaints, or fights. Officers are trained in conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics to handle these situations calmly and professionally.
- Managing Aggressive Behavior: In more severe cases, such as aggressive behaviour security officers must assess the situation and act to prevent harm. They may need to escort disruptive individuals from the property or call law enforcement.
- Reporting to Authorities: When necessary, security officers coordinate with local law enforcement for any criminal activities that may occur on the premises. This may include filing reports, providing evidence or witness statements, and helping with investigations.
- Incident Documentation: Security officers document all incidents and any actions taken. This could involve writing incident reports and maintaining logs of activities for future reference or legal purposes.
- Monitoring Property: Security officers help prevent theft by monitoring areas where valuables might be kept such as safes and cash registers.
- Employee Theft Prevention: Security officers can identify and prevent theft by employees, including the implementation of strict inventory controls and monitoring staff behavior.
