The Retail Pharmacy Technician performs tasks essential to pharmacy operations, including technical and clinical support for pharmacy staff. This role requires in-depth knowledge of pharmacy practice, enabling independent functioning within the limits set by the Montana State Board of Pharmacy. Key responsibilities include:

Supporting barcode technology and automated dispensing cabinets.
Utilizing common computer applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel).
Demonstrating professional growth through certification or other recognized expertise in the pharmacy field.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • State of Montana Pharmacy Technician License in good standing.

• Proficiency with MS Office applications and strong organizational skills.
• Competence in computer use, typing, and accurate data entry.
• Basic knowledge of the 340B Drug Pricing Program preferred.

• Store and maintain medication integrity under pharmacist supervision.
• Procure drug supplies and prepare sterile and extemporaneous products.
• Inspect and remove outdated or unusable pharmaceuticals, maintaining inspection logs.
• Prepare "return" medications for refunds and manage inventory for Automated Dispensing Machines.

• Order, receive, price, and stock pharmaceuticals and supplies.
• Maintain an accurate drug inventory, including reconciliation of transactions from various hospital departments.
• Assist the director of pharmacy in inventory/formulary management and maintain NDC drug dictionaries.

• Prepare IV additives, total parenteral nutrition, and other IV solutions.
• Perform unit dose packaging and assist with automated dispensing cabinet maintenance.
• Monitor billing and reimbursement for high-cost medications and ensure compliance with financial standards.
• Assist in developing competencies for aseptic technique and ensure adherence to legal outpatient dispensing requirements.

• Collaborate with patients and providers to ensure accurate medication lists.
• Interview patients about prescription, OTC, and herbal supplements.
• Communicate with healthcare providers to address medication discrepancies.

• Adhere to Logan Health's Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct, including confidentiality and legal standards (EMTALA, anti-kickback laws, etc.).
• Participate in mandatory compliance training and report policy violations.

• Assist with 340B program tasks and audits.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues independently.
• Continuously seek process improvements and implement patient care advancements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
