Role Purpose
  • To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English.
  • To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
  • To support the Director English in meeting British Council Taiwan strategic objectives.

Accountabilities

  • Plan and deliver tailored English lessons for various customer groups, considering individual learning styles.
  • Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and promote learner autonomy.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of courses and materials as part of the teaching team.
  • Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards.
  • Engage in professional development to uphold high teaching standards and British Council practices.
  • Foster relationships that enhance students’ understanding of contemporary UK culture.
  • Support the team in delivering excellent customer service and upholding British Council values
  • Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
    • Child protection
    • Equal Opportunity and Diversity
    • Health and safety

Qualifications

Essentials
  • Cambridge CELTA OR Trinity Cert TESOL
  • Undergraduate OR University degree in any discipline

Desirables

  • Masters in ELT or related field
  • Recognised diploma in EFL, i.e. DELTA/Trinity Diploma
  • CELTYL or TYLEC

Work Experience

Essentials
  • At least 2 years relevant teaching experience post qualification.
  • TEFL I (CELTA, Cert TESOL or equivalent)
  • Experience in teaching relevant courses:
  • You should have experience in teaching two or more of the following age groups:
    • Young learners aged 4-7 (400+ hours)
    • Young learners aged 8-12 (400+ hours)
    • Young learners aged 13-17 (400+ hours)
    • Adult learners (400+ hours)

Desirables

  • TEFL Q (DELTA, Dip TESOL or equivalent)
  • Experience in managing teachers’ performance and line management experience

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: TWD NT$ 67,500 (point 1) gross per month to TWD 84,188 (point 10) per month on the 18H Teacher salary scale depending on qualification and experience.
  • Contract type : Indefinite
  • Start date : 01 Jan 2025
  • Medical Benefits : Taiwan has very good medical facilities and services. Staff are covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme and a supplementary private Medical Insurance plan. Dental care is good and generally not expensive under the National Health Insurance scheme. N.B. Taiwan is not part of the global British Council Health insurance scheme.
  • Subsistence allowance : Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will be provided up to two weeks' hotel accommodation and a subsistence allowance to allow them to find more permanent accommodation. Teachers recruited from within Taiwan are not eligible for the settling-in allowance.
  • Settling-in leaves : Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will be provided 3 days’ time off (during non-teaching hours) in order to seek accommodation when they first arrive in Taiwan.
  • Baggage allowance : Baggage allowance of up to £1,200 at the beginning of your employment. N.B.’s incoming baggage allowance applies only to teachers recruited from outside of Taiwan.
  • Fares and Travel : Teachers recruited from outside Taiwan will receive economy class travel for the member of staff, accompanying partner, and children, from their previous post or from the UK. This will be reimbursed on arrival in Taiwan. Teachers recruited from within Taiwan are not eligible for airfares.
  • Annual Leaves: Annual paid leave is 35 days in addition to applicable observed public holidays.
  • Work schedule : The role requires the post holder to work on both a Saturday and Sunday, with a two-day weekend on either Monday and Tuesday, or Thursday and Friday, depending on operational needs.
  • Working location: Xin Yi branch and Linkou Branch

  • Passport requirements/ Right to work in the country : Local labour requirements specify that only passport holders from countries where English is the official language used in the country specified in the passport are eligible for an ARC.
