High-Level Overview
Client:
Our client is a climate-focused blended finance investment manager operating across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. They raise and deploy blended climate finance funds, working in partnership to deliver climate-resilient solutions at scale and pace. With over USD 2 billion in assets under management and targeting an additional USD 6 billion, Their private equity and private credit facilities address key areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy transmission, water and sanitation, and biodiversity and oceans infrastructure.
Project:
The client requires a Senior Program Manager to evaluate and drive a decision on the Regional Transmission Infrastructure Financing Facility (RTIFF) among the key stakeholders including the South Africa Power Pool (SAPP). The RTIFF is a blended finance vehicle, managed by our client and funded by SAPP which would facilitate the construction of interconnectors for cross border transmission, thereby extending the size of the SAPP. New electrons generated through the interconnectors would be sold to the SAPP and our client would in turn be paid back its investment and agreed upon return over a defined period.
Role and Responsibilities

Key Deliverables:
- Formal, detailed report/presentation that serves as a detailed overview and evaluation of the proposed structure for the SAPP board’s review
- Stakeholder management activities that result in achievement of a go/no go decision on the proposed structure
Requirements
Experience Required:
- Exposure to and understanding of energy trading, market dynamics and renewable energy finance
- Familiarity with power pools, energy transition mechanisms, and cross-border energy trading in Africa.
- Proven track record in structuring PPAs, energy markets or guarantees in African markets
- 15+ years of experience in renewable energy, energy trading or infrastructure finance
- Understanding of complex investment structures
- Strong understanding of power markets and ability to articulate complex transactions
- Knowledge of African energy markets, including the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP)
- Ability to navigate complex senior stakeholder environments (governments, financiers, energy producers, etc.)
- Excellent negotiation, leadership and relationship management skills
- Strong communication skills and consulting tool kit
- Familiarity with stakeholders in SAPP
