Molo Mhlaba Schools Senior Phase Teacher
Job Role: Senior Phase Teacher
Location: 9 Nkinga Close, Harare Square, Khayelitsha, Western Cape, Cape Town, 7784
Reporting to: Head of School
Contract type: Fixed-Term Contract

About Molo Mhlaba
Established in 2018, Molo Mhlaba Schools is a vibrant and exceptional, independent Montessori school, currently serving girls aged 3 - 12 years. Molo Mhlaba Schools, is a non-profit organisation that supports young girls with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and maths) education, early literacy development, physical health education and outreach programmes for children in the Khayelitsha community. The Molo Mhlaba Schools is a philanthropic venture that will establish and manage a network of low fee, independent private schools in underserved urban communities across South Africa .
Molo Mhlaba is seeking a highly motivated Senior Phase Teacher for the 2025 school year who will be responsible for providing a nurturing, productive learning environment in keeping with the mission and vision of the school. Under the general direction of the Head of School, the ideal candidate will lead a Senior Phase classroom and will oversee students in Grade 7. The Teacher will provide the day-to-day guidance to the students. The Senior Phase Teacher will also be responsible for collaborating with their colleagues to develop interdisciplinary units of study as needed and to play leadership roles in the school.
Senior Phase Teacher Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Education (Senior Phase Qualification, with specialisation in Maths, preferably),
- A Valid SACE registration and adherence to SACE Code of Conduct,
- A Valid South African Police Clearance,
- A Valid First Aid Certificate,
- A recognised Montessori qualification/proven experience in this field or a related discipline is recommended,
- 3-5 years teaching experience in a variety of instructional settings, including working with students from diverse backgrounds,
- Full participation in staff development and WCED workshops and sessions,
- An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities,
- Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills,
- The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect,
- Excellent planning and organisational skills,
- A lifelong learner who can be a good role model for children,
- Ability to plan proactively, work independently and collaborate in teams with a wide range of individuals,
- Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A high proficiency in computer and internet usage (Microsoft Office, Google mail and calendar, cloud storage, social media),
- Committed to the mission and core values of Molo Mhlaba,
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other members of the Molo Mhlaba community,
- Flexible team player with a "can-do" attitude,
- Willingness to serve on staff committees and extramural activities,
- Sound personal and professional character, and
- Committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Responsibilities
- Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn in the classroom environment,
- Developing lesson plans, curriculum, independent learning exercises, and methods that cater to the needs of the individual child,
- Plan and deliver thorough, engaging, Montessori-based lessons consistent with the Molo Mhlaba mission and vision,
- Creating and maintaining a safe, effective, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued,
- Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on trust,
- Setting an excellent example for students and instilling good values in them such as honesty, accountability, respect, and care,
- Monitoring and assessing student progress and writing up reports,
- Ensuring classroom supplies and equipment are available and in working condition,
- Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips,
- Identify students who are academically at risk and initiate intervention strategies,
- Participate in all school-based professional development, and
- Ensuring a clean and prepared environment for learning daily.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Collaborate with colleagues on identifying and addressing student learning needs and instructional unit planning,
- Participate in school-wide planning to maintain continuity between classrooms and throughout the school, and
- Contribute to staff and teacher meetings.
Community Responsibilities
- Meet with parents on a regular basis and hold parent conferences,
- Participate and lead (as appropriate) field trips,
- Attend and participate in Molo Mhlaba community events, and
- Serve on staff committees and extramural activities.
Skills
- Knowledge of Montessori learning and teaching theory, including:
- The diverse learning abilities, preferences, and experiences of students
- The developmental, academic, and social-emotional needs of all children
- Promote classroom projects that creatively cross disciplines in conjunction with the students’ interests, gifts, and passions,
- Use of a variety of assessment tools and data analysis to inform and modify instruction,
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with administration, staff, teachers, and parents, and
- Excellent computer and online skills.
