Earth Sciences and Engineering specializes in site planning, spatial information and digital terrain modeling, surface and subsurface investigations, rock mechanics, underground structures, geotechnical laboratory services, flood forecasting and water resource management through our geotechnical, hydrotechnical, and civil site development expertise.
Hatch is seeking a Senior Civil Designer to join our Earth Sciences and Engineering Division, to be based in our office in Greenstone Hill, Johannesburg.
Our Senior Civil Designer will work closely with the engineering design team, leading design phases and implementing design standards on large and highly complex mining infrastructure projects. Furthermore, you will model using Auto CAD Civil3D, review engineering drawings and supporting documentation for details, accuracy and completeness. This position will support business development and delivery of studies and detailed design necessary for project execution.
You will also review and prepare models and drawings and work together with Engineers to develop design detail drawings and quantities and various supporting documents. Additionally, You will assist with advanced CAD and BIM technology development working with others and continuing Hatch's leadership with design. The role may include providing technical guidance and mentoring to other technician/design staff to provide innovation while maintaining standards and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:
- Knowledge and use of tools and drafting including 2D and 3D model development, completing design changes, general arrangement drawing production, redlining, annotating and drafting and thorough quality control (QA/QC) of models and drawings for compliance.
You bring to the role:
- A technical degree/diploma in related field (civil preferred) with 10+ years civil design experience
- Working knowledge of Auto Desk and Bentley products, including but not limited to Auto CAD Civil3D, Infraworks, Microstation, Projectwise
- Previous experience with large civil mining infrastructure, including earthworks, stormwater management, road design and wastewater collection systems will be advantageous
