Purpose:The Area Superintendent (Non-Process) is responsible for overseeing and managing all non-process construction activities within a designated area of the construction site. This includes coordinating field operations, supervising the work and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards, and ensuring that the work is completed on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities:
  • Construction Site Management:
    • Oversee all non-process construction activities in the designated area, including civil, structural, architectural, and other infrastructure work.
    • Manage daily operations of the construction site to ensure the work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to the project’s specifications.
    • Coordinate work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor the progress of construction activities within the area of responsibility.
    • Ensure that the site is organized, with clear delineation of work zones, material storage areas, and other logistical operations.
  • Subcontractor and Workforce Supervision:
    • Supervise and direct to ensure the work performance as per project requirements and schedules.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to ensure that all employees adhere to safety, quality, and Worley standards.
    • Monitor productivity, work quality, and efficiency of Employees and subcontractors, addressing any performance issues promptly.
    • Ensure that work is completed on time and that the scope of work is executed as planned without delays.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
    • Enforce and maintain the highest standards of safety on-site, ensuring compliance with local regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
    • Conduct regular safety inspections, tool-box talks, and safety audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards on-site.
    • Implement corrective actions for any safety or environmental violations and report incidents or accidents as required.
    • Ensure that environmental standards are adhered to, including waste management, pollution control, and resource conservation practices.
  • Quality Control and Assurance:
    • Ensure that all work meets the required quality standards and complies with the specifications outlined in the project plans and contracts.
    • Conduct regular inspections to monitor construction progress, quality, and adherence to design specifications.
    • Address any quality control issues by working with contractors or subcontractors to implement corrective actions.
  • Coordination and Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for non-process construction activities, facilitating communication between project managers, site teams, and other departments.
    • Coordinate with other construction teams (e.g., process areas, electrical, mechanical) to ensure smooth integration and workflow.
    • Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and site conditions to the Project Manager and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure proper documentation of daily progress reports, equipment usage, and personnel activity logs.
  • Scheduling and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage construction schedules for non-process activities, ensuring that work is completed within agreed timelines.
    • Monitor resource allocation, including labor, materials, and equipment, to ensure that work is carried out without delays.
    • Proactively resolve scheduling conflicts or delays and recommend solutions to keep the project on track.
  • Cost Control and Budget Management:
    • Monitor and control costs for non-process construction activities to ensure the project stays within budget.
    • Assist in managing the allocation of resources to ensure efficient use of materials, labor, and equipment.
    • Provide input into the budget and cost estimates for non-process scope of work and track expenditures throughout the project.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making:
    • Proactively identify challenges or issues on-site and take appropriate action to resolve them quickly and efficiently.
    • Work closely with the Project Manager and other senior team members to ensure smooth project execution and troubleshoot any potential problems.
    • Address conflicts or disputes between employees, subcontractors, or other project teams in a professional and timely manner.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
    • Relevant certifications in safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH) or construction management (e.g., PMP, CCM) are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Experience in construction, with significant experience in managing non-process construction areas such as civil, structural, or infrastructure work.
    • Experience working in large-scale construction projects or industrial sites is preferred.
    • Proven experience in managing teams, subcontractors, and site operations in a supervisory role.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of construction processes, codes, and industry standards, especially in non-process areas.
    • Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage and motivate diverse teams.
    • Ability to identify and resolve construction, safety, and quality issues quickly and effectively.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and coordination with stakeholders.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
    • In-depth understanding of safety regulations and construction standards.
