Work description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated ML Research Engineer to join our R&I team, where you’ll make an immediate impact by advancing real-world projects that drive innovation and transformation across the telecommunications industry.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with internal researchers, business unit stakeholders, and industry partners/customers to develop, deploy, and scale machine learning (ML) proof-of-concepts (POCs) into production. You will contribute to high-impact value creation programs, including the “AI for Responsible Business Impact Program,” “Intelligent Networks and Advanced Solutions”, “Cloud Transformation Program”, and “Bluesky Research Program”.
Key Responsibilities:

Translating Research into Tangible Solutions: Drive the transformation of cutting-edge research into scalable, high-impact solutions that address real business needs and enhance Telenor’s strategic initiatives. Apply advanced ML techniques to develop proof-of-concepts (POCs) that can be seamlessly deployed across Telenor’s networks, creating direct value for business units.

Research and Innovation Support: Collaborate with researchers to design, develop, and deploy ML POCs. Demonstrate and scale these solutions to business units, ensuring practical application and value realization.

End-to-End Deployment: Lead the deployment process of ML models from research prototypes to scalable solutions in production environments. Provide technical support to transition these solutions seamlessly to business units.

Strategic Contribution: Provide strategic and operational insights from innovation activities. Communicate the implications and benefits of ML POCs to stakeholders, aiding in decision-making and future project direction.

Emerging Trends Monitoring: Continuously observe and assess emerging technological and societal trends that can impact the company, industry, and broader society.

Collaborative Culture Contribution: Foster and support a collaborative culture, actively engaging in team learning and cross-functional support.
Experience and Qualifications:
A Ph D in Computer Science with 2+ years of industry experience. Candidates' significant industry experience in AI/ML (5+ years) will be considered.
Technical Expertise (essential):

Front-End Proficiency: Strong skills in HTML, CSS, and Java Script, with hands-on experience using frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js to create intuitive and user-friendly interfaces.

Back-End Development: Proficient in server-side languages such as Node.js, Python, or Java, with experience in building and integrating RESTful APIs and working with databases (e.g., SQL, No SQL).

Practical experience with Docker and Kubernetes for managing containerized applications.

Familiarity with cloud computing environments as GCP, Azure or AWS and experience deploying full-stack applications in production environments.
Technical Expertise (preferred):

Proficiency in deploying, testing, and scaling ML models in the cloud and on premise.

Solid experience in data preparation and storage during ML model training and deployment.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines for streamlined machine learning workflows.

Interest in the telecommunications industry and ML solutions in telcos is a plus.
