Operations Lead - Resident Doctors Support Services

We know that when Resident Doctors (RMOs) are well-supported in their training, education and employment they are better able to meet the diverse needs of their patients and contribute positively to the overall health and well-being of their communities.
Join our Resident Doctors Support Service (RDSS) team where you will have the opportunity to make a difference to the future medical workforce of Health NZ – our RMOs.
Our team is working to achieve the vision for our RMOs – “to support the efficient delivery of a well, well trained medical workforce for today and into the future”. Our small national team is supported with a strong network of local RMO units who deliver support services to the RMOs in our health system.
About the Role
The Operations Lead works with the local RMO unit managers to develop and implement nationally consistent services, policies and processes and identify areas for improvement and efficiency to actively support and contribute to the achievement of the vision for RMO support – “to support the efficient delivery of a well, well trained medical workforce for today and into the future”.
The Operations Lead will be responsible for the supporting interconnectedness, and coordination of local RMO units to ensure the continuous improvement of the experience for Resident Doctors and their wellbeing.
The Operations Lead will lead building and enhancing the overall capability of the support service, including supporting onboarding/orientation and career development, to ensure quality and consistency of services, advice, and practices.
Skills & Experience
  • Experience working in complex healthcare operational settings, preference for experience managing RMO operations – minimum 7 years.
  • Experience in advocating change and leading people in a changing and complex environment.
  • Knowledge of Resident Doctor or Medical workforce environment, training, and employment settings.
  • Experience developing options and provide advice, particularly in complex or contentious policy, specialist, or technical projects.
  • Demonstrates willingness, and ability, to build constructive/effective relationships with stakeholders to develop a sound understanding of their operational environment and context.
About you
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
