Orion

Geospatial Specialist

Christchurch

FULL TIME

November 28, 2024

Orion are proud to be at the forefront and lead the way with technology and data that is critical to our industry, and this new role is the perfect opportunity to be a part of modern and cutting-edge technology. If you love everything geospatial, have a natural curiosity with an innovative customer centric approach, you'll want to know more.
We're looking for a Geospatial Specialist reporting to our Geospatial Platform & Delivery Manager where you will be immersed in analysing geospatial data, conducting data management and helping to implement integrations across core business systems. You'll love to create maps, applications and models, and are motivated by solving complex geospatial problems, while providing insights and guidance across the business.
About us
Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Christchurch.
We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.
The role
  • Source, collect and maintain accurate geospatial information while ensuring the integrity, quality and accessibility of our geospatial data
  • Provide advice on the integration of geospatial data and relevant enterprise systems
  • Conduct geospatial analysis, risk assessments and predictive modelling to support infrastructure planning, asset management and operational efficiency
  • Integrate geospatial web technologies into existing business systems enabling near real-time data access and improved operational decision-making
  • Collaborate with the wider business including field teams to identify geospatial needs and implement innovative solutions
About you
  • Bachelors degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science or a related field with a depth of experience in geospatial roles - preferably within a utility or infrastructure environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Esri Arc GIS Pro and Enterprise, AGOL, Portal, Experience builder, Esri mobile apps and web-based geospatial applications and tools
  • Natural ability to connect and collaborate with others where you can convey information and ideas to various audiences
  • Proficiency in geospatial data management, spatial databases, data versioning and automating field data collection
  • Ability to manage and influence stakeholders across the business while managing conflicting needs and priorities
  • A curious, pro-active and positive approach with the ability to think outside the box and not be afraid to try new things
We offer
You'll find at Orion, you can come as you are and just be you. You will be joining a workplace that values who you are, the work you do, and the way you think. Importantly, we offer:
  • Flexible working arrangements, and flexible locations with our Head office in Burnside and satellite offices in Rolleston and Ferrymead
  • Three days of “My Days” leave
  • A broad range of workplace benefits from a wellbeing allowance to access to our holiday house in Hanmer!
You might be surprised to find out that the company that brings the power to your home is innovative, inclusive, progressive, and quite good fun.
To apply
We encourage you to be you in your application! We are truly committed to diversity, inclusion and lifting our cultural capability. You don't need to be knowledgeable in these areas, but you do need to be on board with learning.
Please reach out to us with any questions at zoe.dalton@oriongroup.co.nz. We will be screening applications as we receive them to move swiftly to interviews. To learn more about us, check out our careers site to find out more about working Orion.
