About the opportunity | Te whai waahi
This is an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager based in the Waikato region, you will play an integral role within the national Milk Supply and the Regional Farm Source team. The main purpose of this role is to secure new milk in a competitive market.
This role is the primary relationship with new farmers as it is often the first experience of a relationship with Fonterra for new suppliers. It is integral to leading the collaboration across different business units and roles within Fonterra to take a lead on competitive strategy and give a seamless world class experience.
The Business Development role plays a critical part in building a sustainable milk supply to deliver Fonterra’s strategy and focus on prioritising New Zealand milk. In return you get to work closely with farmer owners within a critical industry in an organisation that supports personal development. This is an autonomous role with plenty of flexibility and scope to make it your own.
Key components are:

  • Being and integral part of the Milk Supply team pushing for Milk Supply Growth.
  • Creating and implement regional win back plans alongside the regional teams and building relationships with competitor supplying farmers.
  • Identify and convert new milk supply opportunities.
  • Identify trends, barriers and insights across the region to; attract new milk supply, and proactively share these with the Milk Supply team and the regional teams.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to improve Fonterra’s value proposition and work with our regional teams to ensure these are effective.
  • Enhance the reputation of Fonterra by being an advocate and engaging widely within Fonterra, Rural Professional networks, and industry bodies.
  • Where appropriate, support and manage specific projects or initiatives.
About you | Moe koe
You are resilient, have a competitive drive and a passion for the dairy industry, A self-starter with unparalleled negotiation skills, you will love to use your commercial nous to solve challenges. Your understanding and passion for agriculture will help you connect well with both the dairy farming community and rural professionals. Your background may include time in a strong sales/negotiation role with experience in growing portfolios or experience in rural finance or banking.
You are a natural strategic thinker, with proven account relationship management skills and a track record of growth. Coupled with your affinity for the agriculture industry and ideally knowledge of dairy farming and systems you will be able to hit the ground running.
In summary, you will have:

  • Experience in the agricultural industry
  • Strong experience in account/sales or portfolio management with a focus on new customers
  • A good track record of meeting business growth targets.
  • Proven ability to establish relationships with farmers, their advisers and their representative bodies.
  • Preferably hold a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Knowledge of Co-operative environment, key business drivers and interrelationships within the dairy industry.
