Lecturer in Anatomy and Physiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

As lecturer, you will hold an independent position in the Divison of Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Teaching anatomy and physiology is part of nearly all organ system and theme-based teaching blocks in the Bachelor's programme in Veterinary Medicine. In the Master's programme, the department is responsible for in-depth practicals. Additionally, lecturers in Anatomy & Physiology contribute to education at University College Utrecht, the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Geosciences, and in the new Bachelor's programme in Care, Health, and Society.Your role will be diverse, encompassing a variety of teaching, development, and research responsibilities, including:
- teaching lectures, tutorials, and practicals on anatomy and physiology in the Veterinary Medicine Bachelor's and Master's programmes;
- participating in innovative educational projects on, for example, blended learning and virtual reality;
- supervising simulations, self-study activities, and practical assignments;
- preparing and marking exams;
- evaluating parts of the curriculum and implementing improvements;
- participating in small-scale workgroup teaching;
- creating teaching materials and potentially contributing to educational research projects using innovative technology and approaches;
- developing your research project aligned with the strategic plans of A&P and the faculty. We will make sure to organise the combination of education and research in the best possible way.
Your qualities
You are a recent veterinary or (bio)medical graduate, ideally with a completed or almost completed Ph D. You demonstrate a clear affinity for anatomy and physiology. You can work well independently and you are good at thinking outside the box for new ideas. You are critical yet collaborative, capable of engaging with other disciplines both within and outside the faculty on applied anatomy and related research projects. Furthermore:- You have excellent communication skills.
- You have a positive (working) attitude and good social skills.
- You are energetic, enthusiastic and motivated for the job and you are a team player.
- You are interested in both teaching and research, as a personal research project is part of this position.
- You have a good command of English, both spoken and written, and you are willing to learn Dutch.
Our offer
We offer:- a varied job and an exciting working environment, in a team where cooperation and a good atmosphere are paramount.
- the possibility to work on your BKO or SKO;
- a position for one year, with the possibility of an extension;
- a working week of 32 to 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,345 and €5,278 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
- 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
- a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

Anatomy & Physiology is part of the Department of Clinical Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The focus is on veterinary education and research in the fields of anatomy, (patho-) physiology, embryology and stem cells. Our research and teaching work is inspired by the principles of the transition to animal-free innovation. We focus on better science (education and research) with fewer laboratory animals. The ‘Centre of excellence for plastination and virtual reality’ of Anatomy & Physiology in collaboration with the UMCU deals with innovations in the field of animal-free education. We have several partnerships with UMCU and the Princess Máxima Centre; we are also committed to sharing science with a wider audience. We collaborate with the leading museums in this country.
