As a National Distribution Planner, you'll play a key role in ensuring the seamless and efficient transportation of ambient, chilled, and frozen food products across our extensive network. With 17 routes into Ireland and operations in Spain, France, and the Netherlands, your expertise will drive our commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
In this role, you'll manage dual-compartment refrigerated trailers, coordinate logistics across multiple offices and warehouses, and collaborate with our experienced, multilingual teams. Your contributions will enhance our reputation for reliability and strengthen our family-owned business’s dedication to innovation, quality, and sustainability in the food transport industry.
Key Areas:
  • Domestic Transport Planning and Operation: Efficiently plan and execute all domestic seafood transportation activities.
  • Transport Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and manage the master transport schedule comprehensively.
  • Coordination with Distribution and Warehouse: Ensure seamless alignment between domestic distribution and warehouse operations, with trucks available as needed.
  • Cost Management: Record and track all distribution costs utilizing the transport system.
  • Communication and Coordination: Effectively communicate transport delays to relevant departments.
  • Cold Chain Integrity: Ensure the integrity of the cold chain is maintained at all times during transportation.
  • Truck Capacity Management: Continuously consider truck capacity and allocate suitable trucks to designated routes.
  • Weekend Work and On-Call Availability: Essential requirements include availability to work weekends and being on-call.
  • Optimized Load Planning: Strategically plan all loads to minimize empty space on trucks.
  • Cost Analysis and Corrective Action: Review and take corrective measures for cost per kilogram delivered and overall transport costs if they exceed budgets.
  • Supplier Management: Procure high-quality transport at competitive prices by having alternative suppliers for all routes.
  • Customer Claims Management: Operate and engage suppliers in ways that minimize customer claims.
  • Driver Compliance: Regularly review driver tachograph records and provide guidance on infringements.
  • Fuel Consumption Management: Effectively manage fuel consumption through monthly analysis.
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to planned maintenance schedules and compliance with legal requirements for vehicles.
  • Proof of Delivery (POD) Management: Ensure timely return of all PODs by transport suppliers and drivers, establishing and reporting on related KPIs.
  • Administrative Accuracy: Oversee accurate and timely completion of all administrative tasks within Transport Operations through regular checks.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay updated on industry trends and take necessary actions to identify opportunities.
  • Meeting Arrangements: Prepare and review all reporting for established meetings in advance.
  • Feedback Process: Provide feedback on complaints and service quality issues to relevant department heads.
  • Transport Performance Metrics: Generate and maintain KPIs for transport performance such as Cost per Kilogram Delivered per route.
  • Holiday Planning and Approval: Manage holiday planning and approval within Transport Operations.
  • Training and International Transport Coverage: Undertake necessary training and be available to cover International Transport if needed.
Experience and Capability:
  • Strong background in logistics and transport management.
  • Proven experience in effectively overseeing domestic transport operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in cost management and budget adherence.
  • Strong communication and coordination abilities.
  • Sound knowledge of cold chain logistics and compliance.
  • Experience in supplier management and optimization.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and ability to identify opportunities.
  • Capability to generate and analyse transport performance metrics.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and be on-call as required.
  • Prior experience in overseeing administrative tasks within transport operations.
  • Familiarity with vehicle compliance and maintenance standards.
  • Ability to provide actionable feedback and effectively handle complaints.
  • Capacity for strategic planning and meeting preparation.
  • Willingness to undergo training and cover international transport duties if necessary.
