De ZIM e. V., founded in 2017 as a non-university research institute in the field of migration and integration, is a federal govern-ment research organisation re-sponsible for research and devel-opment in the areas of family, equality, children and youth, senior citizens and engagement policy.
What does the job involve?
The Migration Department is primarily concerned with international, cross-border migration to Europe/Germany. It examines migration processes from various perspectives, including migration aspirations and decisions-making, regular and irregular(ized) forms of migration, categorizations and status-making, governance of mobility and border policy, societal implications of migration, including but not limited to solidarity practices and intermigrant dynamics.
The student assistant will be involved in various research projects of the Department of Migration, which analyses the multidimensional and transnational aspects of migration and flight, their causes and consequences as well as their conjunctures and forms. The projects use a variety of research methods, from quantitative approaches to analysing institutional, legal and political structures and processes. The migration department is looking for a dedicated student assistant conducting the the following tasks:
- Support in the implementation of research projects of the department
- Assistance in the preparation and analysis of qualitative and/or quantitative research data
- Support in the preparation of scientific publications and reports
- Support in the functioning of the department (e.g. set-up of meetings)
- Enrolment at a university, preferably in the fields of sociology, political science, law or related disciplines
- Strong interest in refugee and migration research
- Knowledge of either quantitative or qualitative social research methods
- Very skilled in literature research and preparation (e.g. searching, systematic ordering, and briefly summarizing central results of a research, scientifically impeccable citation)
- Very good organizational skills
- Good written and spoken English or German language skills are required, other language skills are valued as an advantage (in particular Arabic, Farsi)

Remuneration is in accordance with TV-Stud III of the State of Berlin. The position is initially limited until 31.12.2025.
