Job Responsibilities
- To promote outstanding teaching and learning in the department that focuses on creating a bilingual, bicultural experience that inspires and will enthuse students to learn.
- Creating a positive culture in the whole department; to be an enthusiastic role-model with a passion for their department and to be accountable for student progress and achievement within the group area.
- Ensure appropriate Unit Planners are in place
- Effective monitoring of student progress on an individual or group basis (e.g. by teaching group, gender, etc. )
- Ensure school's assessment framework is adhered to by the group team.
- Ensure effective management and deployment of financial, physical and human resources.
- Ensure the PE team's teaching and support commitments are effectively timetabled and roomed
- Attend regular line management meetings with the linked SLT member.
- Cover arrangements, including setting appropriate cover work for absent staff if necessary.
- Contribute and lead regular department meetings with teaching and learning as a standard agenda item.
- Provide agendas and minutes of these meetings to all members of the group team, and to the SLT if required.
- Create a department development plan that mirrors the school development plan.
- Ensure appropriate monitoring activities are undertaken through regular paired lesson observations (at least one per teacher per term), and through scrutiny of students' work, including teachers' planning and assessment, in line with school monitoring policies.
- Through monitoring of assessment data, ensure appropriate targets for progress and attainment are set; that attainment is appropriate for specific groups of students; identify areas of actual or potential underachievement and implement appropriate strategies to address these.
- Ensure positive behaviour for learning policies and procedures are implemented to enable effective learning to take place.
- Ensure appropriate and effective induction of teaching staff new to the group team.
- Ensure appropriate measures are in place to coach, mentor, support and guide new teachers to the group.
- Ensure that the department provides appropriate support for students applying for relevant university course, especially those applying to elite universities
- Ensure that the department provides appropriate outlets for the development of the Dehong Difference, including supporting the Qidi programme and House Competition.
- Lead and maintain SIM platforms like Fire Fly or Seesaw etc., particularly the department area section.
- Produce, review and implement relevant department policies.
- Ensure that physical resources to deliver the curriculum are acquired and are maintained effectively.
Additional Expectations
- Competence to orally and verbally communicate with staff members, students and parents in a professional context in both English and Chinese
- Embrace the education of the whole person and have deep understanding of Chinese national curriculum and international curriculum and their implementation approaches (Preferrable top bilingual school working experiences)
- Lead and/or support a minimum of one (1) co-curricular activity
- Attend and participate constructively in staff meetings
- Participate (including preparing students/activities) in the wider life of the school, such as assemblies, celebrations, after-school sports training, extra-curricular events and so on
- Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices around the network and participate in group-wide events as appropriate
- Support service learning and sustainability practices, events and programmes
- Other teaching and learning related tasks as determined by the Principal
Post-holder Qualifications, Experience
At least two years post qualification experience and specific qualifications to support
- Bachelor or above degree is required
- PGCE or QTS, Teaching License from non-UK countries are required
