Yukon First Nations are an important partner in the governance of the territory. First Nations’ traditional territories cover almost all the land in Yukon. Our territory is home to a total of 14 distinct First Nations communities. In this endeavor, we humbly recognize and honor the ancestral wisdom of Yukon's original peoples and the expanse of their Traditional Territories that grace the Yukon landscape.
Our department plays a crucial role in delivering a wide range of services and supports that span from early learning to adult education and encompass K-12 schooling. We are proud of our diverse team of professionals who collaborate to develop and implement policies, programs and initiatives that promote student success and enhance educational outcomes across the territory.
First nations ways of knowing, doing and being are integral to our school communities and learning. Our schools provide experiential learning programs with a First Nations lens. Our work is guided by implementing actions that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Superintendent position reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister and is responsible to operational oversight of schools. Success in this role relies on building and maintaining strong relationships with School staff, families, First Nation’s, school councils, and other community partners.
