Who We Are
As one of Canada’s largest and most respected environmental non-profit organizations, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is a leader in habitat conservation. DUC is a science-based organization, and we are looking for a Research Biologist to join our science team, the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR). IWWR conducts research on a wide range of topics including waterfowl ecology, biodiversity, conservation planning, wetland biogeochemistry, sustainable agriculture, and more.
What You Will Do
We are seeking a Research Biologist to advance DUC’s science priorities and support conservation planning, particularly in the Prairie Pothole Region and Western Boreal Forest (Prairie Habitat Joint Venture geography). Under the supervision of a Research Scientist, you will conduct research in avian/wetland ecology or related field aligned with the mission and conservation vision of DUC and the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR). This includes leading or contributing to project design, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of results. You may also manage field and laboratory research, supervise staff, oversee project budgets, and report to funders and partners.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with DUC staff and external partners to advance conservation initiatives using science. Your responsibilities will include coordinating with key collaborators and providing science-related support, including advising on the application of research results. You will also assist in the development and application of geospatial conservation planning tools and models, including leading training and communications related to their use. Additionally, you will respond to data and information requests concerning research and tools.
The Research Biologist will contribute to scientific manuscripts and reports, present results at scientific forums and professional meetings, and engage in outreach activities, such as delivering presentations at workshops, creating DUC marketing materials, and participating in media interviews. You will also support the National Manager of IWWR and senior scientists with program planning, identifying research priorities, fundraising, and budget preparation.
If you are looking to make a positive impact on conservation in Canada, this is an exciting opportunity to join an engaged and enthusiastic team. Let us know how your expertise and skills could contribute to our science team.
