We’re looking for a Plant Manager who will oversee and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations in running a successful efficient and productive plant. This individual will provide effective leadership and guidance to team members, as well as foster a positive work environment where open communication and creative thinking are encouraged. The Plant Manager will be looking after the Prepress, Press, Bindery, Kitting & Shipping teams, and will work with the General Manager to formulate and recommend improvements to systems and procedures used to develop our products, and to reduce workload, schedules and costs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise the day-to-day operations of Prepress, Press, Bindery, Kitting & Shipping teams to ensure that orders are produced based on customer specifications, expectations and timelines.
· Develop and maintain efficient communications to allow the supervision team to be informed with all relevant information
· Motivate employees and supervisors to meet short and long-term goals
· SME for Operations - create purchase orders and request calculations, understand costs, support order entry and scheduling on all production.
· Plan, develop and stimulate process improvements and provide best practice for products and equipment
· Maintain continuous improvement tactics in equipment efficiencies, product quality, paper waste and cost reduction in processes
· Participate in development and implementation of quality programs for overall quality improvement
· Perform personnel administrative tasks (managing time/attendance in ADP payroll system, etc.), including coordinating and participating in hiring and promotion processes, supervising and training new employees and resolving any employee issues
· Meeting gross margin financial objectives through constant review of measurement reports; i.e. improvement processes, resourcing, equipment upgrades, job costing, etc.
· Proactively monitor and implement changes that will positively affect gross margins
· Train and coach staff so that they can be the most efficient and autonomous as possible
· Maintain constant daily communication with employees, ensuring employees respect policies/procedures to meet health and safety goals and foster a good team spirit
· Recommend selection, termination, promotion, transfer, classifications and changes in compensation of staff
· Reviews and evaluates the performance of subordinates in relation to establish requirements for production, quality, safety, costs and communications.
· Develops, trains and improves direct reports by assisting them and supplying proper tools and materials for them to carry out their duties and responsibilities.
· Attends Environment, Health & Safety committee meetings, while supporting and ensuring that programs are being administered, understood and enacted upon. Ensure good housekeeping is maintained.
· Assists and advises General Manager in establishing departmental budgets. Maintain the most effective utilization of plant personnel and equipment through the review of data on productivity, quality, costs and delivery performance. Investigates deviations from established objectives or standards and initiates corrective actions.
· Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Technical or Community College Diploma in Print Production, Administration or a similar program
· 10+ years of experience in a people management role in a similar setting
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel; working knowledge of Microsoft D365 is an asset
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a self-starting attitude and organizational skills
· Able to multitask and work with all levels of staff in the organization
