HR Generalist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources Generalist provides strategic leadership that models and promotes the mission, vision, and values of Northern Contours and for the current and continuing integrity and effectiveness of the Human Resources plan, functions, and department across the organization. The Human Resources Generalist will assist the HR Manager in overseeing all HR-related functions for Canadian operations, including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices for Canada’s manufacturing and Renuit programs. Additionally administer Canada’s Environmental Health & Safety program, with the details of the scope of the EH&S role to be defined in coordination with operations senior management.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruiting
  • Writes and places internal and external employment advertisements.
  • Interviews, screens and recruits job applicants to fill production entry, skilled and technical level job openings.
  • Conducts all onboarding for new employees.
  • Conducts new-employee orientations.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.
HRIS
  • Manages and maintains accuracy of employee personnel files in Human Resources Information System.
  • Provides User support to new Users and provide first level support to employees and managers.
  • Create reports from HRIS system as needed to support other processes and upon request.
  • Train new employees how to navigate the employee portal.
  • Utilizes time and attendance system, including but not limited to managing accrual profiles (vacation, sick leave, etc.), new hire entry, providing resolution to system errors, etc.
Employee Relations
  • Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary action.
  • Monitors attendance and absenteeism report and ensures proper documentation is issued on employees who have excessive attendance problems.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, etc. in a timely manner, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.
  • Organizes culture building events.
Benefits Administration
  • Oversee the addition, termination, and administration of Group Benefits for all employees within Canada (including RRSP/TFSA).
Records Management / Administration
  • Manages and maintains electronic employee records in accordance with record retention policy.
  • Monitors employee performance evaluations and ensures they are done in a timely manner (i.e., three months, six months, one year and yearly thereafter).
  • Monitors and maintains eligible salary adjustments/increases based on three, six-month, and one-year evaluations.
  • Reports, maintains and monitors all WSIB case files; follows-up on open cases.
  • Process expense reports via Concur as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a Human Resources
  • Must have HRPA designation or certified professional in Human Resources
  • In-depth knowledge of current legislation relating to employment standards to the capacity of providing counsel, including but not exclusive to Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workers' Compensation Act, Labor Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, etc.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of M.S. Office application software packages (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • HRIS systems experience with Time and Attendance Management or Payroll.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, consultative, and innovative approach to identifying opportunities and solving problems.
  • Excellent written skills.
PREFERRED:
  • CHRP or CHRL is highly desired.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new technology and leveraging technology for best practices and processes.
  • High level of accuracy, follow-through, prioritizing and meeting deadlines are essential along with a highly professional and calm demeanor projecting energy and helpfulness.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time.
  • Requires repetitive movement.
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm in-office required (no remote).
