Position Description:
The Miramichi Regional Hospital is seeking a Geriatrician to join a comprehensive full-time hospital-based practice in geriatric medicine providing both inpatient and outpatient consultation services.
Horizon’s Miramichi Regional Hospital is situated in the northeastern part of New Brunswick in the city of Miramichi. The hospital provides health care services to the city of Miramichi and its surrounding communities, which have broad roots in Irish and Scottish descent, and includes four vibrant Francophone communities and three progressive First Nation communities covering a catchment population of 46,000.

Job Duties:

• Accept geriatric referrals from primary health care professionals.
• Perform clinical duties including, but not restricted to, seeing and assessing both scheduled and unscheduled patients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment, arranging consults, referring to other healthcare professionals as required, and ensuring appropriate follow-up.
• Teaching responsibilities for family medicine residents, medical students, and others as appropriate.
• Practice in a collaborative fashion as a member of an interdisciplinary team and consult with members of other health professions as appropriate.
• Within the confines of this scope of practice and position description, provide other duties that may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by the Chief of the Department of Family Medicine, the Chief of Staff, Medical Director and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Qualifications:

• Must be eligible for license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick.
• Must be eligible for membership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
• Must be eligible for malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA), or equivalent, appropriate to the category of practice.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
• Good attendance and work record.
• Physically able to perform assigned duties.

Remuneration:
Remuneration plans for Geriatricians are dependent upon location. More detail will be provided throughout the application process.
Incentives:

• $100,000.00 accompanied by a 4-year return of service for eligible physicians, as determined by the Department of Health.
• Moving Expense Allowance reimbursement of up to $8,000 for eligible physicians.
