JOB SUMMARY
The Data Analyst works independently and as part of a team, to provide statistician and database support to Centre for Gender and Sexual Health Equity (CGSHE) researchers for data-related research tasks associated with ongoing cohort/quantitative studies, including the AESHA and SHAWNA projects as well as other CGSHE-hosted studies. This position includes assisting researchers with study design, assisting with analysis and application of statistical methods; extracting information for research analysis and programming questionnaires; and assistance with project data and management systems according to ethical and privacy protocols.
ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
This UBC position/project working under UBC faculty leads would be based at the Centre for Gender & Sexual Equity (CGSHE), a UBC and SFU-affiliated academic research centre housed at Providence Health Care. The CGSHE has a strategic mandate of leadership in promoting gender equity and sexual health equity through in BC, Canada and globally. The CGSHE is a network of over 30+ UBC and SFU faculty, their UBC/SFU research teams, and affiliated trainees with shared mission and goals.
WORK PERFORMED
The successful candidate will:
Support with maintenance of quantitative data, including updating, cleaning, and editing for quality assurance and being responsible for developing or writing novel protocols; Monitor survey responses and generate regular monitoring reports, detailing characteristics of survey respondents by study intervals; Statistical analyses of epidemiological data, in collaboration with other team members; Conduct complex analysis and interpretation; Troubleshoot complex systems problems; Use statistical software (R and/or SAS preferred) to analyze and summarize data; Evaluate data quality and accuracy and check in with supervisor regularly about any issues; Maintain records of analytic procedures, including annotated statistical code and documentation for other team members; Program questionnaires in Red Cap, Qualtrics, or other software; Preparing and revising tables and figures with results, as directed by supervisor and other team members; Contribute to manuscripts and conference abstracts/presentations; Adhere to ethics and privacy protocols; and, Complete other relevant tasks, as needed.
Workspace will be primarily at the Centre for Gender & Sexual Health Equity in downtown Vancouver.
DECISION MAKING / ACCOUNTABILITY
This position works with a moderate degree of independence and responsibility and exercises some amount of judgement. Errors in judgment could result in serious financial or reputational consequences for the CGSHE/ UBC, undermining the Centre's ability to meet commitments and achieve its strategic objectives, including the inability to successfully meet granting agencies' deliverables. Inaccurate projections and forecasts could cause the Centre to make costly decisions regarding levels of investigator and staff resources and other support. Poor public/private sector relationships could result in a negative image of CGSHE / UBC and may impact levels of research funding made available through partnerships. Errors could result in significant concerns regarding the liability, credibility and integrity of the CGSHE and UBC.

Supervised by and reporting to the Statistician/Database Manager and relevant PIs.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Strong proficiency with at least one statistical software R and/or SAS preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Word, Excel, Power Point
Demonstrated ability to work with large databases and multiple data sources
Ability to audit and validate data
Ability to work independently and within a team, as needed
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Received, or eligible to receive, security clearance for Statistics Canada microdata access see: https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/microdata/data-centres/access
Knowledge or familiarity with 2S/LGBTQ+ health research is an asset, as is experience with Qualtrics and/or Fluid Surveys.
