Job Summary
The Team
The Asset Management team is an established group that has been successfully coordinating asset management practices for over eight years within the Fire Centre. Made up of six members including Asset Management Assistants and a Coordinator, this team operates across various locations in the Cariboo Region. They play a critical role in supporting Wildfire Crews by ensuring the effective management of fleet, assets, and facilities. Team members work closely with colleagues from finance, procurement, headquarters, and contractors, all while prioritizing the needs of others, especially during emergency response situations. The team values hard work and collaboration in a fast-paced, essential environment.

The Role
As the Asset Management Assistant, you will support the Fire Centre and Zones by managing the Inventory Management Information System, monitoring stock levels of supplies and tool caches, and ensuring they are replenished as needed. You’ll also monitor provincial fleet usage and make recommendations on repairs, replacements, modifications, and addressing any misuse or underutilization. Additionally, you’ll help coordinate the maintenance and repair of facilities, identifying critical concerns at BC Wildfire Service sites. By ensuring that wildfire crews have the necessary vehicles, equipment, and facilities, you'll play a key role in supporting BC’s primary emergency response efforts, providing a rewarding opportunity to contribute behind the scenes in a vital role.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
Preference may be given to candidates:
  • With experience and knowledge of heavy equipment and basic wildland firefighting equipment
  • Who have completed training in contract and procurement management
  • With demonstrated experience in the following: facilities, property or vehicle fleet management
  • Valid Class BC drivers license or equivalent


Provisos /Willingness statement(s)

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in ICS positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.

This position has full time on-site requirements.
This is a temporary opportunity until April 4, 2026. This position may be extended or become permanent.
