POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at Mc Gill University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to lead and conduct research in the field of computational materials science in collaboration with the Research Supervisor. This position will involve developing automatically parallel high-throughput computational workflows to screen doping elements for inhibiting the growth of thermally grown oxide (TGO). The successful candidate will contribute to conducting research projects and is responsible for achieving the project’s objectives. As required, the successful candidate is responsible for the functional supervision of the Research Assistant(s) and/or Undergraduate/Graduate Research Assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Construct supercell models for grain boundaries (GBs) and interfaces in TGO for first principles and molecular dynamics simulations
-
Examines the interactions between the doping elements and other defects in TGO, particularly in the vicinity of GBs and interfaces, using computational methods and techniques
-
Develop an advanced machine learning (ML) framework, incorporating structural and physical features obtained from simulations, to predict essential thermodynamic and kinetic metrics controlling the growth of the TGO layer;

Writes scientific reports, papers, or articles related to research activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Material Engineering or equivalent
-
Has at least five (5) years of research experience
-
Advanced proficiency in first-principles, molecular dynamics and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations.

Advanced proficiency in high-throughput computing and GPU computing.
-
Strong expertise in grain boundaries and defect dynamics in oxide materials.
-
Strong expertise and prior experiences in machine learning and deep learning.
-
Strong scientific writing and presentation skills.
