POLICY ASSISTANT, CLIMATE & ENERGY, INDUSTRY TRANSFORMATION (PAID INTERNSHIP)

The WWF European Policy Office (WWF EPO), the Brussels advocacy office of the global conservation organisation WWF, is looking for an intern to join their junior professional programme. The successful candidate will support the ongoing activities on the industry transformation workstream, within the Climate and Energy team, in the role of industry transformation intern (paid internship).Please consult the attached job description and required conditions below for more information on the position. Location: Brussels, Belgium
Conditions:
- The first 6 months are under a Belgian internship contract ("convention d’immersion professionnelle/ Beroepsinlevingsovereenkomst”), at a gross salary of 1.400 €/month;
- Upon the successful completion of the initial internship and funding being available, there may be an opportunity for a further 6 month fixed term contract at a gross salary of 2.600 €/month;
- Candidates should not be students;
- Starting date: as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the ongoing WWF EPO industry transformation workstream, within the Climate & Energy team, in the following activities:
- Monitoring key legislative proposals linked to the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal;
- Carrying out research and analysis of key policy areas in the context of the Clean Industrial Deal;
- Support the coordination at WWF EPO (led by the Senior Policy Officer in charge of industry transformation workstream) across team members involved in advocacy activities on the Clean Industrial Deal;
- Attend events and meetings on the Clean Industrial Deal and other climate and energy related topics, when appropriate;
- Provide support on activities linked to the work of WWF on the future of the EU ETS, and other key legislatives files followed by the Senior Policy Officer and linked to the EU’s future Climate and Energy policy architecture (post 2030).
- Academic qualifications and/or work experience on climate/energy and/or industry issues is desirable, but not mandatory;
- Previous experience of working with policy-makers (for example an internship in the EU institutions) or in NGOs is an asset;
- A keen interest in contributing to the fight to stop climate change and protect the natural environment.
- A very good understanding of the functioning of the European Union and its legislative processes;
- Impactful communication: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and an ability to communicate complicated messages clearly to different audiences; active listening and empathy skills;
- Flexible task management: well organised and flexible with a high sense of initiative and the ability to work independently and take on additional responsibilities when required. Ability to plan, prioritise and manage a heavy workload and a flexible and positive approach to problem solving;
- Effective collaboration: good team player prepared to contribute proactively to a variety of tasks. Ability to develop good working relationships. Ability to coordinate and manage networks and networking skills;
- Strategic and analytical thinking: excellent research skills and ability to present extensive technical information in a simplified form. Compile ideas into concise proposals and verify own conclusions; knowledge and understanding of the use of databases;
- Balanced resilience: keep performing with high quality and calm when put under the pressure; daring to go out of personal comfort zone and still securing a healthy work-life balance;
