Organizational Setting
The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW) comprises the Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section, the Waste Technology Section, the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Section and the Research Reactor Section. The Division seeks to support Member States in building their capacity to access technologies, to share good practices and to develop safe and effective approaches across all aspects of research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, decommissioning, radioactive waste management and environmental remediation.

The Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials Section (NFCMS) assists interested Member States in the development of safe, environmentally friendly, economically viable, proliferation-resistant and sustainable fuel cycle options and it encourages information exchange on the exploration, mining and processing of uranium and thorium, on the design, manufacturing and performance of nuclear fuels, on the management of spent fuel, and on the development of advanced and innovative nuclear fuels and fuel cycles.


Main Purpose

As a member of the team and reporting directly to the Section Head (Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Materials), the Associate Project Officer (Nuclear Fuel/Fuel Cycle Facilities) provides direct support to the development and implementation of IAEA activities to increase relevant capabilities within interested Member States for technology development in the areas of nuclear fuel and nuclear fuel cycle facilities.

Role

The Associate Project Officer (Nuclear Fuel/Fuel Cycle Facilities) is: (i) a specialist, providing ideas and recommendations on how to improve and maintain the content quality of the databases on nuclear fuel and materials, on the one hand, and on nuclear fuel cycle facilities on the other hand, and of the websites of the nuclear fuel engineering and nuclear fuel cycle facilities networks; (ii) a substantive contributor, providing editorial and production support to the development of documents and e-learnings on nuclear fuels’ development and operation, and technical documents on nuclear fuel cycle facilities’ operation, upgrade and life management; (iii) a technical contributor providing support to enable the efficient and effective organization of events and coordination of research activities.

Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Quality check the information inputs, provided by Member States and experts, into the databases of the integrated nuclear fuel cycle information system (PIEDB, NFCFDB) and into the databases on nuclear fuel and core materials.
  • Contribute to the production of e-Learning materials on various aspects of nuclear fuels’ development, operation and post–irradiation examination, and assessing the impact of these e-Learning materials on end users.
  • Update the webpages of the Team’s networks (NFE-Net and FCF-Net) with relevant information to keep the members abreast and foster exchange of technical information.
  • Assist the Team in the compilation and edition of IAEA publications on nuclear fuels’ development and operation and on nuclear fuel cycle facilities’ operation, upgrade and life management.
  • Contribute to the organization of the Team’s planned events on nuclear fuels’ development and operation and on nuclear fuel cycle facilities’ operation, upgrade and life management.
  • Assist the team in the coordination of research activities, through CRPs on advanced nuclear fuel development for current and next generations of nuclear reactors.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
Bachelor's Degree - University degree in nuclear engineering, material science, nuclear fuel cycle facilities, or a similar field.
Minimum two years of experience in nuclear fuel engineering, fabrication or development, or in nuclear fuel cycle facility operation.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $50377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 30579*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
