We are seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Design Director to provide national leadership for our MEP Engineering business. Based in either Sydney, Melbourne, or the East Coast, you will manage a high-performing, multidisciplinary team delivering exceptional outcomes for major infrastructure projects. Due to the nature of the position and project requirements, travel may be required from time to time.As a M&E Design Director, you will be responsible for:
- Provide national leadership to the MEP Engineering Business area.
- Proven experience in operating within a multi-disciplinary team and management environment with focus towards integration and offering high quality outcomes for clients.
- Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical and career development advice across our team.
- Contribute to the development of major project bids, identify opportunities for additional project work within the Engineering and Design business area.
- Present to perspective clients and outline the capability and capacity of our team.
- Develop and manage process for the development of major project design packages and support the MEP engineering team in the progression of works.
- Have the ability to bring new talent into the engineering and design business in the area of MEP.
- Have genuine commercial acumen in the management of project scopes, contracts, commercial issues resolution and risk management.
- Have a commitment to Continued Professional Development, with key understanding of modern design development tools and processes.
- Have a highly developed level of technical proficiency in the area of MEP Engineering. Be able to guide key design decision making and protect technical positions developed with key stakeholders (clients, IR, Proof Engineers etc).
- Be committed to the development of positive work culture within the MEP Engineering team, including showing leadership in the management of workload, career progression, issues resolution and staff wellbeing.
- Consider constructability in all design outcomes and consult with relevant team members to ensure that design outcomes are constructible.
- Proven ability to be an active, visible and aspirational leader.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering (or similar)
- Minimum 15-20 years experience working on design of Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulics and associated systems for major infrastructure, energy or process style projects.
- Proven track record in managing large teams across multiple projects which a focus on delivery timelines, quality, technical compliance and stakeholder management.
- Experience in the development of project proposals including program, cost, risk and opportunity.
- Experience in managing and reporting against the integrated program schedule including Earned Value determination.
- Management of Design budgets and forecasting of resources & costs.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills
- Ability to undertake business development activities and secure a pipeline of work as part of the broader Engineering and Design function. This includes proven relationships within other design and construction companies.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (EA or similar)
- Evidence of having held senior roles in a Tier 1 Design Consultancy or Construction Company in relevant area.
Additional Preferred Experience:
- Demonstrated understanding of construction techniques, construction methodologies and procurement process.
- The ability to bring new clients to our growing business.
- Experience in the delivery of Construction Phase Services work or site verification activities.
