Job Title: Academic Branch Coordinator
Role Purpose:
Academic support for the teachers, Operations, Marketing and Customer Services teams, ensure appropriate teaching resources, line manage five teachers, teach up to 12h/week and support wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
Main Accountabilities:
Support British Council’s global English strategy by
- delivering teaching to the highest standards of ELT
- enhancing British Council’s reputation as a world authority in ELT continuing professional development and sharing of best practices
Main duties
- Provide day-to-day academic support to teachers working in the branch through assisting teachers during planning times, working with less experienced teachers and carrying out developmental observations where appropriate, as well as provide parts of product/segment induction for new teachers.
- Ensure there is appropriate provision of teaching materials in the branch such as course books, supplementary materials folders, resource packs, storybooks, toys and puppets as well as arts and crafts materials.
- Liaise with teachers working in the branch and Senior Teacher(s) to identify classroom and teachers’ area resources that will add value to the courses.
- Liaise with teachers working in the branch and Senior Teacher(s) to identify (and implement where possible) ways of providing further academic support.
- Liaise with Academic, Operations, Marketing and Customer Services Teams to maintain, and further develop, a positive relationship with learners attending classes in the branch and their parents.
- Ensure the classroom are neatly organized and displays of student work in the classroom and hallways are appropriate.
- Provide cover if teachers working at the branch are unable to deliver classes.
- Line-manage up to five teachers and carry out lesson observations and performance management meetings in accordance with corporate standards.
- Plan, prepare and deliver up to 12 hours per week of high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups.
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
- Ensure that appropriate, up-to-date teaching materials, resources and other course-related documents (e.g. parent overviews/pacing schedules) are available to teachers.
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards as well as coordinate various projects as per centre’s needs.
- To provide academic support for the level testing consultations. Ensure alignment with the internal policies.

- Teaching: At least 4 years full time post-certificate (i.e. CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL/PGCE) experience. Extensive experience (800+ hours) teaching young leaners and / or adults Academic management: Proven ability to provide academic support and/or professional development to teachers working with young learners and adults. Proven ability of undertaking teacher training, developmental teacher observations and/or line management for teachers teaching young learners.
Qualifications:
- TEFL-I qualification (CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL) / PGCE
- YL qualification (YL Extension to CELTA / TYLEC / B.Ed / MA-TEYL) Full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.

Gross salary: Salary will depend on qualification/experience, starting from: 12641 RON gross
Contract Type: Fixed Term contract for 2 years (high possibility of extension)
Candidates must have the pre-existing right to work and live in EU/Romania.
