The Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service offers free, non-judgemental services and treatments for drug and/or alcohol use, including information and support for families. Our service offers specialist drug and alcohol doctors, nurses and allied health staff who respect the client's right to choose from a range of treatments offered with our services underpinned by a philosophy of harm reduction.

An opportunity has become available for qualified Registered Nurses to join the Drug and Alcohol casual pool. Registered Nurses are responsible for working within a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and management of patients presenting to the Centre of Addiction Medicine with drug and alcohol related issue in the triage assessment and management of patients accessing services offered by Drug & Alcohol Service. They contribute to the efficient flow of patients from central Drug & Alcohol Intake to inpatient, outpatient, and other settings as appropriate to the patient's individual needs. The position ensures optimal outcomes for patients/clients and carers of the service through the promotion of best practice including the appropriate escalation of care.

The incumbents also provide the administration of Methadone, Buprenorphine and Buprenorphine/Naloxone to patients engaged in the NBMLHD Opioid Treatment Program in accordance with Legislation, NSW Health Policy and LHD Procedures. The successful candidates will work collaboratively utilising effective team communication with members of the multidisciplinary health team in the planning, implementation, assessment and evaluation of patient care. In this position, you will act as an advocate for the specific needs of all patients/clients and carers including those from the indigenous population or other multi-cultural groups providing appropriate care to the patient/client undergoing specialised procedures.
