Your role within the team
This is an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Lawyer to join our legal team based in Melbourne on a 12-month contract (maternity leave cover), to support our markets in Australia and New Zealand, as well as from time to time assisting other key global markets throughout the US, Europe, Asia and emerging new markets.
This role will provide administrative and legal support across a range of diverse brands within the Health and Happiness Group (Swisse’s parent company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange), including Swisse, Biostime, Zesty Paws, Dodie, Good Gout and others. It will provide exposure to a variety of fast paced commercial matters and require a pragmatic mindset with a positive and enthusiastic approach, with a strong attention to detail and a strong technical legal skillset.
You will be part of a supportive, collaborative and high-performing legal team. The work will be varied but will broadly involve administrative tasks with legal team oversight (e.g., company secretary support, raising Purchase Orders and invoices on behalf of the legal team etc), including contract drafting and reviews, legal interpretation and providing legal advice - whilst always adopting a solution focussed and commercial mindset. You will also assist in fostering relationships across the business in a collaborative manner and have an interest in understanding the commercial drivers behind our business strategy to deliver accurate and thorough legal advice.
You will gain exposure to and work closely with a range of areas across the local and international business including sales, marketing, finance and operations. A key part of your role when advising business teams will be to ensure legal compliance and prepare legal advice which is well supported, carefully researched and thoroughly considered.

Key responsibilities include:
- Administrative support to the legal team, including with respect to company secretarial matters;

Reviewing and negotiating contracts, which may include:
- Non-Disclosure Agreement,
- Supply Agreements,
- Ambassador Agreements,
- Licence Agreements,
- Trading Terms.
- Assisting with providing advice and reviews of online and offline marketing materials, labels and other collateral material used to drive sales,
- Assisting with providing high quality, thorough and comprehensive legal advice to the legal team and business,
- Assisting with preparing and updating standard operating procedures in line with corporate governance principles,
- Simplifying complex legal challenges and providing clear recommendations to business teams,
- Flexible, open minded and solution focussed approach,
- Building collaborative, collegiate relationships with the legal team and broader business teams both locally and abroad,
- Contributing to the high performance, dynamic and collegiate culture of the legal team,
- Ability to deal with multiple priorities and work both independently and as part of a team,
- Assist with the implementation of systems and processes for the effective and efficient management of legal matters,
- Assist the legal team with the development and updating of legal precedents,
- Manage and maintain confidentiality with respect to sensitive legal matters.

To make sure we’re setting new starters up for success, we ask that you meet a few criteria relevant to the role to be considered for this opportunity:
- Australian Law degree,
- Minimum of 2 years post-admission experience,
- Current Australian Practicing Certificate,
- Private practice (corporate group), preferably with secondment experience desirable
- Small, Medium or Top tier law firm experience desirable,
- Team oriented and collaborative approach,
- Excellent technical legal capacity,
- Solution focused and pragmatic,
- Ability to simplify complex legal challenges and provide clear recommendations and solutions.
