We are interested to hear from Rural Hospital Medicine trainees who are looking for new Registrar opportunities based at Whakatāne Hospital, as part of the Te Manawa Taki regional Rural Hospital Medicine Training network.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Whakatāne Hospital is accredited for training by the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine programme. We have 1 registrar position available:
  • 6months 0.5FTE Anaesthetics/0.5FTE ED, 6 months General medicine.
  • Other opportunities include paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and General Practice
Working at Whakatāne Hospital you will be part of a small, highly skilled, and supportive team in a provincial hospital providing 24/7 medical cover. All trainees are fully supervised and work within the RNZCGP Division of Rural Hospital Medicine learning framework.
A key focus for Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is to build a sustainable workforce whilst achieving equity in health outcomes for our Eastern Bay community.
Whakatāne Hospital has 110 beds and serves a population base of 50,000 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

NOTE: This program is part of the Te Manawa Taki regional training network, which currently includes options for rotations within the Waikato, Lakes and Bay of Plenty districts. About you

  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
