About the role
This role will involve providing psychological assessments, therapeutic interventions, and support for Infant, Child, and Adolescents up to the age of 18 experiencing a range of mental health conditions. You will work alongside a team of dedicated healthcare professionals to offer care tailored to each individual’s needs, using both individual and group therapy approaches.
Workdays can be between Mon – Fri with flexible working hours between 8:00am and 5:00 pm.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (i CAMHS) is a regional service for infants, children and youth aged up to 18 years with moderate to severe mental health conditions. Our disciplinary team is made up of psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers, all trained in a range of treatment modalities.

An important aspect to this role is inter-agency work, including working with community services such as Oranga Tamariki, schools, GPs and local Māori networks.

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist or Registered Psychologist with ideally at least two years post-registration experience within an i CAMHS, or acute mental health setting.
About you:
The successful candidate will:
  • Conduct psychological assessments and diagnoses for infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to clients and families.
  • Work closely with families, caregivers, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Contribute to case conferences, clinical reviews, and team meetings to facilitate integrated service delivery.
  • Engage in service development initiatives, participate in professional supervision, and attend ongoing professional development.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with clinical standards and policies.

Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have current registration with the NZ Psychologists Board under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act (2003), hold a current Annual Practising Certificate and have appropriate experience and competency.
  • Be passionate about providing psychological interventions for infants / young children and their families to ensure they get the best start in life. This will include knowledge of attachment and bonding, and the impact of adverse childhood events on healthy development, including emotional wellbeing and relationships.
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of current research findings relating to major mental health issues and trends, and psychological interventions for children, adolescents & families.
  • Be an active participant in our multidisciplinary team and will be the type of person who fits into a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines.
  • Be able to engender confidence, trust and rapport with clients, their support networks and other agencies and service providers.
  • Be competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Have experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
