Position: Accountant
Location: Germany - Remote
Position Type: Part time.
I am currently seeking a talented and experienced Sr. Accountant to join an independent media organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful journalism while ensuring the organization’s financial stability, compliance, and efficient reporting.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and proactive professional, fluent in Arabic, speaks German and knowledgeable about German financial and audit standards.
They should have solid experience in budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and bookkeeping, with a strong understanding of compliance.
The role requires someone who can work independently, solve problems efficiently, and handle financial operations while ensuring clear communication with internal and external teams.
Additionally, they should be adaptable and eager to contribute to a dynamic and fast-paced environment, aligning with the organization’s values and growth goals.
Role Overview:
In this part-time remote role you'll be at the heart of the organisation's financial operations, playing a key role in maintaining its financial health. Your responsibilities encompass budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and compliance, ensuring the integrity of financial data and communication with external parties as needed. Your diverse tasks support the organisation's financial well-being and help it operate smoothly.
Accountabilities:
Your accountabilities will include but are not limited to:

• Assist in developing the accounting function and system for the organisation.
• Create the annual budget in collaboration with the Managing Director.
• Participate in financial planning in line with strategic plans, cash flow projections etc.
• Create periodic budgets versus actual expenditure reports.
• Create periodic reports for funders.
• Prepare financial statements, interpret financial results and report discrepancies.
• Carry out all bookkeeping responsibilities.
• Develop and improve the organisation's accounting policies and protocols (e.g. credit card use policy, purchase request policy, etc.).
• Assist and coordinate with our accounting firm with regards to payroll and annual accounts.
• Prepare reports for external auditors.
• Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
• Secure financial information by completing backups for accounting data.
• Conduct minor ad hoc admin tasks assigned by the Managing Director.
• Communicate and coordinate with external legal resources when necessary.

Qualifications

• Solid experience in accounting, financial planning, and reporting, with a proven ability to manage financial operations effectively.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a plus.
• Fluency in Arabic (written and spoken), and proficiency in German language.
• Knowledge of German financial and audit standards.
• Knowledge of the English language is a plus.
