The Institute of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering deals with knowledge-based scaling of bioprocesses and multi-scale bioprocess characterization as well as the development of robust bioprocesses with microorganisms and in cell culture applications. Another focus is the investigation of single cell physiology and population heterogeneities in bioprocesses using multiple reporter strains.

In the course of the advertised Ph.D. position, metabolic burden effects induced through recombinant protein production in bioprocesses of different industrially relevant microbial production hosts will be investigated.

YOUR TASKS

• Cultivation of different industrially relevant microbial production hosts in bioreactors across bioprocess scales
• Transformation of cells for plasmid-based production of recombinant proteins
• In-depth analysis of cell physiology at single cell and population level
• Mathematical evaluation of experimental data and basic modeling

YOUR PROFILE

Requirements

• Completed scientific university studies, in particular in the subjects of Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering or Biology

Required knowledge and personal skills

• Practical experience in microbial cultivation in bioreactors at laboratory scale
• Practical knowledge in analysis of bioprocess samples and in the best case knowledge in statistical data analysis
• Experience in genetic engineering of microbial cells
• Friendly, open-minded personality and great team player
• Willingness to participate in supervision of lab courses
