• Assistance with close observation of patient needs; including monitoring patient comfort level
• Assistance with basic patient care as directed by the Nurse (i.e. bathing, nutrition, positioning and ambulation)
• Moving patients and their belongings as required
• Getting supplies, refreshments, linen for patients as needed or requested
• Answering call bells as appropriate
• Maintaining supplies and linen
• Setting-up and moving equipment when necessary
• Restocking patient rooms
• Communication of safety issues and equipment/supply needs to manager or operational support nurse

• Completion of a recognized personal support worker certificate or health care aide program from a community college or equivalent education required
• Current BCLS certification
• Previous experience as a Patient Support Assistant in a Childbirth unit required
• Effective written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
• Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
