Raise is hiring a Metro Vancouver Stations - Technology Lead for Our Client, one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada. This position is a fifteen (15)-month contract located in Burnaby, BC. We are actively seeking talented professionals like you to drive these crucial initiatives forward.


Description

The Metro Vancouver Stations - Technology Lead will work on Boston Dynamics robot to develop its ability to support and develop autonomous routine inspection protocols, respond to substation operation events and data logging and reporting. Role Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to the reliable operations of equipment and systems by applying appropriate maintenance strategies including preventative, predictive, condition-based and operate to fail safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.
  • Assist with specific aspects of more complex reliability and maintenance engineering activities adhering to prescribed methods and techniques by following established practices working under close supervision of a senior professional engineer who reviews work for accuracy, adequacy, and conformance with prescribed procedures.
  • Participate in engineering practice using initiative and judgement in making a few routine technical decisions, applying standards and following detailed instructions so that engineering standards are maintained.
  • Perform periodic tasks independently by using engineering drawings, equipment manuals, reliability tools, and maintenance software.
Role Deliverables:
  • Develop Routine Substation Inspections
  • Fire Risk Assessment and Response Preparedness
  • Anomalous Equipment Assessment and Data Analysis
  • Support Projects, Engineering and SFO with Data and Reports
  • Use onboard cameras to scan equipment for visible signs of wear, corrosion, or physical damage (e.g., loose connections, rust, cracked components).
  • Utilize thermal imaging to monitor temperatures of critical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers. Look for anomalies like hot spots.
  • Use onboard microphones to listen for unusual noises, including humming, buzzing, or arcing sounds, and report any anomalies.
  • Patrol areas identified as high-risk for potential fires, such as sections with vegetation overgrowth, near cooling oil tanks, or high voltage connections.
  • Record data using thermal cameras and gas sensors for early detection of elevated temperatures or gas leaks (e.g., smoke, carbon monoxide).
  • Test Emergency Response Protocol:
    • Perform a simulated fire response routine, which involves navigating through the substation and collecting data for the control room.
    • Report any obstacles or issues with movement or data collection during the response routine.
    • Transfer all collected data from visual, thermal, and auditory sensors to the central control system after each patrol.
  • Incident Alert:
    • Post processing of digital data from Li DAR scans in the required file formats from Engineering Survey, Project Delivery, PCM, Operations, etc.
    • If any abnormalities are detected, generate an immediate alert and provide a report detailing the findings (including timestamped images and sensor readings).
    • A human supervisor should review data collected by SPOT after each patrol.
    • Maintenance personnel must be available for any technical issues reported by SPOT.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of engineering experience including some time working in the reliability field, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, industrial, civil, or equivalent
  • Junior Engineer (not registered yet)
  • Recent graduate with a degree in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science
  • Python scripting, C coding, and command-line operations in a UNIX-like OS
  • Experience in Li DAR scanners and processing software
  • Good working knowledge and basic experience in the following areas:
    • Operation, maintenance, and failures of equipment and systems in the power utility industry, oil and gas industry, or heavy industrial environment
    • Reading and understanding drawings and manuals to articulate how a system works and how the system can fail and what needs to be done to prevent failures either from a design or an effective maintenance standpoint
    • Various types of predictive and condition-based maintenance technologies and their application
  • Basic knowledge of the following:
    • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
    • Reliability tools including Failure Modes/Effect Analysis (FMEA),Reliability Center Maintenance (RCM), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD) of Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
Nice to haves:
  • Programming microcontrollers, such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi
  • Familiarity with position encoders, cameras, force sensors, and other robotic sensors.
  • Experience with communication interfaces, such as Ethernet, PCIe, CAN, SPI, and I2C
