Duties
Senior Heritage Presenters are part of a dynamic team that delivers world class heritage programming within Southwestern Ontario Field Unit Historic Sites.This position gives you the opportunity to interact with visitors from around the world to deliver education programs, guided tours, and dialogic or conversational interpretation. You will also get to demonstrate historic activities, all with the unique advantage of being dressed in historic clothing/uniform.
Work environment
On the grassy shores of the Niagara River, just 22 kilometres from Niagara Falls, Fort George is a glimpse into one of the most important chapters of Canadian history. Attacked and destroyed by American soldiers during the War of 1812, the sprawling complex has been faithfully reconstructed, with rebuilt officers’ quarters, barracks and other buildings joining an original 1796 stone powder magazine that survived the Battle of Fort George.A piece of living history at the mouth of the Niagara River, Fort George offers a vivid reminder of a time when Canada’s very existence hung in the balance.
Intent of the process
Term and/or permanent seasonal – 0.5 – 0.6 FTE (26 - 31 weeks) between April and November.In support of achieving a representative workforce, preference may be given to qualified candidates who self-identify as Indigenous.
This process (will OR may) be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures, security levels or linguistic (profiles OR requirements) in same or other parts of the country.

A minimum of 2 years post-secondary education or acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
For Example: Acceptable combination of education, training and experience means:
Two years of secondary school or PSC approved alternatives; AND
Degree equivalency

- Successful completion of a minimum of one (1) course relevant to the duties of the position (e.g., courses taken through continuing education facilities, colleges, universities, professional or governmental organisations or employers including training provided by Aboriginal elders or group that may include but not limited to courses in heritage interpretation, communications, public speaking, performing arts); AND/OR
- A minimum of three (3) months experience working in the fields of education, interpretation and/or outreach communications.
Experience:
EX1: Experience working and/or volunteering in one of the following fields for the purpose of education, engagement, entertainment and/or motivation:

Examples; firing of flintlock muskets, firing of historic artillery, historic cooking / baking, knowledge of, or experience working with, Georgian / Regency clothing and uniforms, Indigenous storytelling, etc.
AEX3: Experience handling cash/working with a Point of Sale (POS)
Conditions of employment
Reliability Status security clearance- Possession of a valid class G driver’s licence
- Required to possess or obtain a PAL. (Possession and Acquisition of Firearms License)

- Stand/walk/march for prolonged periods in warm, heavy wool historic uniforms / clothing
- Handle historic weapons and black powder
