About the role
We are looking for a Communications Specialist to help us find better ways to enhance Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s communications and engagement, with our workforce and across the communities in which we operate.
You’ll be part of a supportive team, supported by your Leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work on a 5/2,4/3 FIFO roster which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.
Reporting to the Communications Business Partner – Pilbara Mines, with a dotted line to the Site General Manager, you will:

Adhere to all Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures and report any safety hazards and risks to the appropriate channels

Implement communication strategies that promote positive engagement amongst the workforce on site and across Rio Tinto
-
Develop, coordinate and distribute site-specific communications and engagement activities that support key site and business priorities
-
Work in partnership with the External Affairs and Communications team to deliver broader Rio Tinto communications to site
-
Liaise with other site business areas and contractors to support site activities
-
Support the leadership team to identify and escalate potentially contentious issues and develop strategic communications and engagement to manage risks
-
Monitor, report and evaluate communications and engagement impact on driving key site priorities
-
Provide advice on site communication content, channels and effectiveness
-
Ensure appropriate alignment of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s strategy with site communications
About you
-
Strong communication / interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and build and manage effective partnerships
-
Demonstrated experience in successful planning and delivery of projects. Demonstrated background in providing strategic communications advice
-
A drive and eagerness to develop
-
Ability to work autonomously, drive outcomes and meet action plans
-
Microsoft Office skills
-
Current C class drivers’ licence
It will also be beneficial if you have:
-
A tertiary degree (Bachelor level) or certificate, or proven experience in a relevant area of expertise (e.g. public relations, journalism, communications, stakeholder management, marketing).

Related industry exposure
-
Experience in filming, photography and editing
-
