JOB SCOPE
The Finance Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations while driving the continuous improvement of the Shared Services function. This role plays a key part in ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and the achievement of organisational goals.
Core Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
· Oversee month-end closures and prepare detailed financial reports.
· Analyse financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting
· Lead the development of the annual budget, collaborating with department heads.
· Provide financial forecasts to support strategic planning and align goals with organisational objectives.
· Monitor cash flow and predict future financial performance based on historical trends.
3. Fundraising and Donor Reporting
· Collaborate with the Development Team to prepare budgets and financial reports for donor proposals.
· Ensure compliance with funder requirements, including reporting on fund utilisation and responding to financial queries.
4. Stakeholder and Supplier Management
· Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
· Negotiate and secure competitive rates aligned with the organisation’s PBO status.
· Foster cross-functional collaboration to integrate the finance department into broader organisational operations.
5. Systems and Process Improvement
· Evaluate and enhance financial systems and workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy.
· Identify and integrate new technologies to streamline processes and reduce redundancies.
6. Compliance and Risk Management
· Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and internal policies.
· Coordinate external and internal audits, providing required documentation and resolving audit queries.
· Conduct regular financial risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
7. Team Leadership and People Management
· Lead and mentor the finance team, promoting a culture of accountability, excellence, and professional growth.
· Upskill team members and enhance their effectiveness.
· Set performance targets, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Education/Equivalent
Minimum Requirements
Honours degree in Commerce with a focus on accounting.
Experience
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in finance, including managing teams.
· Solid knowledge of IFRS, accounting principles, and practices.
· Previous experience in an NPO environment (advantageous).
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point).
· Experience with accounting software (preferably Xero) and payroll systems (preferably Simple Pay).
· Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
· In-depth understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements in South Africa.
