Field Agronomist - Petit

- The Field Solutions team at Bayer is seeking a highly motivated Field Agronomist to drive innovation by delivering high-quality, usable data. The successful candidate will conduct and oversee field trials, ensuring safety and efficiency, and provide valuable data for bio dossiers, project decision-making, and knowledge transfer within the commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and oversee field trials to provide data for the registration of new and existing substances/products.
- Optimize the use of digital tools like the EDC app to increase trial data capacity and improve data timelines.
- Support the development of crop strategies by sharing relevant in-field knowledge with ASMs.
- Promote and enforce safety policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Provide insights from field trials to Agronomic Solutions Managers (ASM) and update the SCOUT program continuously.
- Manage day-to-day activities at the Field Station and contribute to innovation.
- Maintain up-to-date Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Risk Assessments (RA) for all areas, jobs, and equipment.
- Participate in and coordinate Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) Reviews and Management of Change Reviews.
- Develop and monitor corrective action lists out of Change Reviews to address shortfalls and improvements.
- Facilitate and manage regular safety meetings, ensuring outcomes are actioned and monitored.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and company Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies.
- Maintain a store for experimental and registered compounds used in product development trials.
- Record and manage product information for all experimental compounds received and dispatched.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- University Degree/Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Biological/Data Sciences with a focus on crop protection.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Knowledge of crops (fruit, vegetables, cereals) and practical cropping systems.
- Experience with field trials and field-testing methodology, including digital tools.
- Qualification in Safety Management (UNISA Certification in Safety Management, SAMTRAC, or similar) or studying towards a National Diploma in Safety Management is a bonus.
- Excellent teamwork, organization, and planning skills.
- Flexible, reliable, and embraces change.
- Strong networking and communication skills.
- Proficient in data science and IT applications, including Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Proficient in English (written and spoken).
- Valid car driving license.
- Relevant competence certificates (e.g., AVCASA).
